Saturday marks three weeks since Euclid officer Jacob Derbin was killed in the line of duty during a domestic violence call on May 11.

19 News sat down with Dawn Derbin, Officer Derbin’s mother, on Memorial Day for an extended interview to remember her son.The mother says Officer Derbin chose family and service above all else.Not only was Officer Derbin’s father also a Euclid officer, his grandfather and uncle were too. “That was his drive. He was making his poppa proud. He made us proud,” Derbin said. “That’s my only peace is that he’s safe in my dads arms. In his poppa’s arms. And he’s watching over all of us.”“It was a complete fairytale,” she said. “After graduating high school he went into the military came home...he did serve time in Kuwait. Came back home worked hard to get his degree at Kent State. And then went to police academy...
Communities around Northeast Ohio keep remembering Officer Derbin’s through vigils, memorial services, and remembrance walks. “Communities across northeast Ohio just,” said Derbin. “It restores your faith in humanity and good always wins.
