Australian swimmer Kyle Chalmers has made a shock retirement announcement, revealing he plans to step away from the pool after a major event next year.
At 18-years-old, the Aussie sprint swimmer became a household name when he claimed gold in the men's 100m freestyle at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Most recently, the South-Australian born athlete won gold in the men's 100m freestyle at the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, touching the wall in 47.15 seconds. “It’s definitely quite challenging having these 17 and 18-year-old kids on the team, and they kind of make up most of it, so just having things in common to talk is a challenge at times,” he said.
