The former Ibrox captain is full of belief going into the Old Firm derby and is convinced his old club can claim a huge win.
Put it this way, if you had told me back at the start of October that Rangers might be about to go two points clear of Celtic with a game in hand heading into the split, I would have hung up the phone. And then blocked your number for being in cloud cuckoo land. I still remember sitting there at Ibrox watching Aberdeen score three goals and thinking to myself, ‘Oh my God, this is an absolute shambles. Where do they go from here?’.
Anyone who reads this column regularly will know that it’s not like me to be so confident. I’m always wary of making big predictions because they have a tendency to come back and bite you right on the a***. But there’s something about Philippe Clement and his side which tells me that this is their moment. Look, these guys are about to go into battle - because that’s exactly what Celtic will give them - and they will have to dig deep to overcome the challenge.
And that’s why I can’t see them allowing this opportunity to slip through their fingers when Celtic turn up on their doorstep this weekend. I’ll be there and I’m getting nervous and twitchy right now just thinking about it. I’ll be up and down to my seat for half an hour before kick-off, getting all agitated and nervous but also bursting with excitement. My own time may have come and gone but when this fixture comes around - and especially one like this with so much riding on it - all the old memories come flooding back.
As a matter of fact, I’ve already picked my starting XI for Sunday assuming that they’re all fit and ready. Jack Butland in goal, James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, John Souttar and Ridvan Yilmaz across the back.
