Blackburn with Darwen Council has awarded a three-year contract to two charities to provide domestic abuse support services in the borough.
Blackburn with Darwen Council has awarded a package of contracts worth £404,023 a year to provide domestic abuse support services to two borough charities. The deal will last three years with an option to extend for a further two. The two linked contracts have been awarded to Blackburn and Darwen District without Abuse (The Wish Centre) in partnership with Humraaz. Lot one is for community-based support and lot two for accommodation-based support and floating support services .
A report revealing the decision by Martin Eden, Blackburn with Darwen Council’s strategic director of environment and operations says: “On August 8 2024, the Executive Board of Blackburn with Darwen Council gave delegated authority to award the contract for the provision of domestic abuse services following the completion of a procurement process. “The new contract will be awarded for a three-year duration with an option to extend for a further two years (plus one year, plus one year) subject to funding still being available and satisfactory performance being evidenced. The provision of domestic abuse services has been retendered due to the current contract coming to an end on March 31 2025. “The commission is required to: “• protect vulnerable people and support victims of crime in line with our statutory duties; “• provide a holistic domestic abuse service which meets the need of the people of Blackburn with Darwen; “• to provide the best value, highest-quality service for the residents of Blackburn with Darwen; and “• provide a service model that ensures safe, compliant, quality services which are effective and efficient and meet critical needs within this borough as required and inspected by Ofsted and Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Service
