Khari will spend his first few weeks settling in and visitors may be able to get a sneak peek of him in his new home
A new big cat facility is well underway at Blackpool Zoo following the return of their very own lion king.
The lion returned on Monday, May 2, settling in ahead of the three lionesses who will arrive later this month and form his new pride. The new facility, the Big Cat Habitat, has a significantly larger indoor and outdoor footprint than it did previously.The exhibit also had state-of-the-art facilities for both zookeepers and for residents. The lion section is the first to be completed, which includes a "sprawling" indoor area, heated mock rocs and extended viewing windows.
The tiger area next door has also been extended, with bigger indoor and outdoor spaces, designed in a similar manner to the lion section. Not only has the zoo welcomed back Khari, but works are in place for the return of Alyona the Amur tiger, who's been residing at Woodside Wildlife Park in Lincolnshire.
Zoo Director, Darren Webster, is delighted to see Khari return and the latter stages of the project completed. He said: “It is absolutely wonderful to see Khari back where he belongs.
