Mountain rescue teams tragically discovered the body of a missing woman during a search operation near Bolton on Saturday, January 11. Lynda, whose surname was not released by the police, had been reported missing from the Ainsworth area of Bury after last being seen on January 4. A widespread search and public appeal were launched to locate the 57-year-old, who had last been observed leaving her home on Parish Drive.
Police, paramedics, and mountain rescue teams were subsequently called upon to assist in the search of rural land situated near Knowsley Road on Saturday. Heartbreakingly, rescue teams located Lynda deceased in the vicinity.\Greater Manchester Police confirmed that Lynda's next of kin had been notified, and a report had been submitted to the coroner. They expressed their condolences, stating that their 'thoughts remain' with Lynda's family. In an update shared on Sunday, the Bolton Mountain Rescue team provided further details about their involvement in the search. 'Yesterday, Greater Manchester Police requested Bolton MRT’s assistance with an ongoing search on rural land in the Ainsworth area for a woman who had been reported missing,' their statement read.\'35 team members, including seven from our support team, were deployed for nine hours. Sadly, the woman’s body was found by team members in one of our search areas. Our thoughts go out to her family at this time. Thank you to Brownhill Boarding Kennels and Stables for letting us use their car park as our operational base for the day.' In a separate statement, Greater Manchester Police confirmed the tragic discovery, saying, 'A body has sadly been found in the search for missing Lynda. Her next of kin are aware and a file has been passed to the coroner. Our thoughts remain with Lynda's family at this difficult time. Thank you to those who shared our appeals.
