A fire marshal listed fireworks among the possible causes, as empty firework containers were found behind the building.

The owner of a Columbia antiques shop that burned last week said Monday that a Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal told him they probably won’t be able to pin down the cause.

Doolittle said the fire marshal told him that he expects the fire’s cause to be classified as “undetermined.” When Doolittle was asked if he thinks he knows what caused the fire, he said: “No, not any more than anyone else.”. The fire destroyed one building and damaged the others.James Grothey, spokesperson for state police, said Monday that there isn’t an update from the fire marshal who’s investigating the fire alongside the Columbia police.

“We hardly believed it. We thought it was a joke, at first,” David Doolittle said Saturday. “It was unreal, when we came over, what we saw. A ball of flames in the air, and it was a state of shock.” Tollbooth Antiques consists of 50,000 square feet, and according to David Doolittle, 40,000 of which were impacted by the fire. As of Monday, the Doolittles have plans to bring 30,000 square feet up to operation again.
