Jenny McGarvey, who lost her dad to the disease, has taken to the east end near Parkhead to try and tackle the area’s survival rates which are the lowest in Scotland.
The daughter of Celtic legend Frank McGarvey is bringing the fight to beat pancreatic cancer to her dad's footballing heartland.
“So I’m taking part in this campaign because I want people to know what the symptoms are. Trust your gut instinct, don’t get fobbed off, don’t take no for an answer. Early diagnosis could save your life. When dad was diagnosed with cancer, we were floored. I didn’t even know what pancreatic cancer was.
The former Queen of the South boss - who also played for St Mirren and Liverpool revealed his cancer diagnosis in October 2022 and appeared on the pitch at Parkhead before a game against Hibernian to thank fans for their support. “Early diagnosis is key, so if just knowing the symptoms encourages one other person to go back to the doctor it will be worth sharing dad’s story.”
Fewer than six percent of Scots with the the condition survive five years after their diagnosis, according to research. The only current treatment of the disease is surgery but just one in ten patients receive the operation.
