A teacher from Co Tyrone has won a prestigious writing award bearing the name of Seamus Heaney for her poetry work.
“Last year there was a long list of nine poems and three of them were mine but ultimately I lost out,” Michelle said. The busy mum-of-three from Greencastle says she often comes up for ides for poems as she is washing the dishes or dropping one of her daughters off to dance class. “Right from the start I started to get my work published in journals in the UK and Ireland so it gave me a burst of confidence that I could do this.”
“So many of the kids were coming up to me and congratulating me and that was one of the loveliest parts of it all, it meant so much to me that it meant so much to them.
