FILE- The Columbus Metropolitan Library 's Martin Luther King Branch, located at 1467 E. Long Street in Columbus, Ohio. Last week was National Library Week , and the Columbus Metropolitan Library has a reason to celebrate even after it's over.
The library hosted its Checkout Challenge during the week of April 7-13, and customers who checked out one or more items during that time were entered to win a $100 gift card to Kroger. The goal was for 135,000 items to be checked out, but customers surpassed that goal as a total of 149,257 items were checked out during the challenge across each of the library's 23 branches.
“We challenged our customers to help us celebrate by checking out 135,000 items, and they responded in a big way,” CML Chief Community Engagement Officer Donna Zuiderweg said in a media release. “We are so grateful to them for their continued support.” The winners of the drawing for the Kroger gift card will be announced this week with one name drawn for each branch.
