CCTV footage has caught the moment a man make a brazen move inside a police station, as officers plead for help from the public to identify him.

Victoria Police on Tuesday morning released footage of a man who had walked into a police station on Bourke St in the city about 9.50pm on March 9.

The video showed the man appearing to look around the foyer suspiciously before putting his arm through an opening of a screen and take a donation tin.
