A library was torched and shops were looted in a night of violence in Merseyside, with a dad seen pleading for rioters to stop so his children would be safe
Rioters wreaked havoc on County Road in Liverpool last night Saturday, causing extensive damage in what was described by the police as "serious violent disorder". A desperate father implored masked individuals not to torch a terraced shop to ensure his children's safety, yet a nearby library was set ablaze as looters targeted local businesses.
As the barrage of bricks against officers wielding riot shields continued, fireworks were distributed among the crowd, which were then shot towards the police. Meanwhile, bins were set alight, seemingly to obstruct the road, reports the Liverpool Echo. Looters, using a signpost uprooted from outside Home Bargains, forced open shutters to steal alcohol, cigarettes, and vapes, distributing the stolen goods among themselves. At 10.24 pm, the police issued a statement, which said: "We can confirm there is a significant police presence on County Road in Walton as a result of people being involved in serious violent disorder this evening . Officers were deployed to the area following information about a planned disorder close to a mosque.
