Stephen Earle was arrested by the Polícia Judiciária Fugitive Team in Faro and returned to the UK to stand trial. The 52-year-old pleaded guilty to four drug supply charges.

Stephen Earle was apprehended by Portuguese police after they were tipped off by the National Crime Agency earlier this year.

Earle, from Liverpool, is the latest gang member to be jailed as part of an operation that saw at least 10 kilos of heroin and seven kilos of cocaine shipped from England to Scotland. Terence was jailed for 16-and-a-half years in April last year. The pair used the encrypted communications platform EncroChat to run the operation, with the help of associates Stanley Feerick, 70, and Lee Baxter, 50.

It comes after gang member Stephen King, 49, was caged for his involvement in a scheme to create a £1.1m cross-country drugs factory. King, from Dumbarton, was jailed for 18 months after being snared as a lackey in the drugs ring, which was geared up to produce methamphetamine on an "industrial scale" at the lab in Motherwell.
