Incumbent Gerard Hudspeth faces a challenge from Stephen Dillenberg and Luc Wedgeworth in the race to be Denton's next mayor.

We recommend incumbent Gerard Hudspeth, 51, in the Denton mayoral race. Hudspeth was elected mayor in 2020 and served on the City Council and the Planning and Zoning board before that. He has more experience in municipal government than his opponents, Luc Wedgeworth, a Sanger ISD teacher, and Stephen Dillenberg, a general contractor.

If re-elected, Hudspeth plans to work toward bringing new businesses and jobs to Denton. Specifically, he is interested in a youth sports facility that can host tournaments that are currently held in Frisco and Southlake. Hudspeth also plans to develop the area near the Denton Enterprise Airport, where a blockchain mining data center was recently set up, into a large employment center. He wants to continue the city’s efforts to hire more police officers and invest in infrastructure.

Also running is Dillenberg, 37, who previously ran for a seat on the City Council. He’s frequently at City Hall to talk about unrelated issues like curing cancer, student loan forgiveness and vaccines during the public comment period. Dillenberg wouldn’t make an effective mayor in our view.Dentonites need a mayor who’s thinking about the city’s long-term financial stability and its various residents’ needs. Hudspeth is the right choice..
