Eighteen armed officers in tactical gear stormed towards 331 Parmely Avenue on Jan. 10 in search of weapons allegedly stolen by a 12-year-old suspect.
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Investigators this week cleared Elyria police for the raid in which officers stormed the wrong house, a search that terrified the tenants and sent a small child to the hospital.
The raid stemmed from a burglary in the 100 block of Bell Avenue on Jan. 2. Elyria police received a report that 14 guns had been stolen overnight. The sheriff’s department report, handled by Major Richard Bosley, said Elyria officers began trying to locate the third juvenile suspect on Parmely Avenue.
Elyria officers had reason to believe the 12-year-old lived at the home when they conducted a search warrant later that day, despite two recent calls for service at the home that contained “limited information” on who the tenants were, according to the sheriff’s report.
