Borussia Dortmund have revived their interest in signing Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, while AC Milan remain heavily invested in securing his transfer. Both clubs are battling for the English international's signature during the January transfer window.
Borussia Dortmund are aggressively pursuing a loan deal for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford , according to Sky Germany. Earlier this week, Dortmund appeared to be distancing themselves from the possibility, citing the substantial cost, even with subsidies, as exceeding their budget. Additionally, Rashford was reportedly not the preferred target of head coach Nuri Sahin.
However, Dortmund's stance has seemingly shifted, as they are now actively seeking to secure the England international's services. Meanwhile, AC Milan remain very interested in Rashford and are actively working to finalize a transfer agreement. Rashford's representatives have engaged with several European clubs this month to explore potential deals. Manchester United's preferred outcome would be a straight loan transfer for Rashford if they were to allow him to leave Old Trafford. Rashford was once again omitted from the matchday squad for Manchester United's Premier League victory over Southampton on Thursday. When questioned by reporters after the FA Cup third-round triumph against Arsenal the previous weekend, Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim remained coy about Rashford's future, stating, 'I don't know. We will see.' In separate news, AC Milan have reportedly prioritized signing Rashford over Manchester City defender Kyle Walker during the January transfer window. Pep Guardiola confirmed last weekend that Walker and his representatives are exploring their options after informing outgoing sporting director Txiki Begiristain of his desire to move abroad. Sky Italy reports that AC Milan initially sounded out Walker some time ago in case Fikayo Tomori departed the club, but his transfer was blocked by the arrival of new manager Sergio Conceicao. It remains unclear whether this time could be different, but Milan are constrained by Serie A regulations, allowing them to register only one English player. Under Serie A rules, clubs can register a maximum of three non-EU players per season, plus one additional player from the UK or Albania if they have no current non-EU players in their squad. If they already have one or two non-EU players, they can bring in a maximum of two more non-EU players. If they have more than two non-EU players, they can buy two more non-EU players, but one of them must have played for their national team in the preceding 12 months. Milan could only acquire two new non-EU players this season due to the number of spots already filled, which they did in the summer with the signings of Emerson Royal from Tottenham and Strahinja Pavlovic from Red Bull Salzburg. Consequently, Milan have only one remaining spot available for a UK (or Albanian) player. Even if they sell a non-EU player, they are still unable to sign another UK-based player. This limitation applies to one slot per registration period (season).
