Campaigners are also asking for it to be paid from 60, rather than the current age of 66

The State Pension could rise to £416 a week for every everyone over 60 under a radical new proposal. A new campaign that would see pensioners given an income boost is gaining momentum ahead of Chancellor Jeremy Hunt's Autumn Statement.

He also told a Q&A event: "I think that we have to be very careful not to break manifesto promises. Sometimes, it does happen." The state pension annual uprating will be announced during the Autumn Statement on November 22.All eyes are on what the Government will do to control the spiralling costs of the welfare system and with the next next State Pension increase due to start from April 2024.

But many say the current pension amount is simply not enough and a new plan has now been put forward which would see the State Pension rise dramatically to £416 a week. . There's due to be a substantial rise of up to 8.5% next year if, as expected, the triple lock is based on high earnings growth, which would take the New State Pension to £221.20 a week. But thousands of people have signed a petition saying it's still not enough to keep pace with household costs and needs to be raised much higher to match the National Living Wage and take people out of poverty.
