East Midlands Airport (EMA) has implemented a new technology system designed to enhance the travel experience for older or disabled passengers. Accessible via smartphones or similar devices, the system allows passengers to plan their airport visits, book required services, receive live updates, and connect with airport staff for immediate assistance through a 'live chat' function. The system, provided by Transreport, has garnered recognition from the Civil Aviation Authority and received awards from the Business Disability Forum and Airport Honour Awards.

East Midlands Airport in Leicestershire has introduced new technology which it said would make travel easier for older or disabled passengers . The system, which passengers can access on smartphones or similar devices, enables them to plan their visits to the Castle Donington airport, including booking services they require.

It also provides live updates and ensures EMA's customer service staff are aware of passengers' needs throughout their time there, according to a spokesperson. This means, the airport said, they would be able to respond immediately to a passenger in need of assistance thanks to the system's 'live chat' function.

Provided by a firm called Transreport, the system was praised last year by the Civil Aviation Authority. It was also recognised at the Business Disability Forum Awards and Airport Honour Awards, EMA said.Mike Grimes, the airport's customer and planning director, said: "We're really pleased to be working with Transreport to become the first UK airport to offer this more personalised approach to our popular assisted travel service.

"With Transreport's passenger assistance technology, we can provide a tailor-made service which will give customers all the information and choice they could want on their journey through the airport. They can relax and start enjoying being on holiday before their plane even leaves."
