Households are set to experience an average increase of ten per cent

Energy prices are set to rise this winter with many households expecting to pay an extra 10 per cent. Every three months the price cap has been changing, and this has been falling steadily to £1,568, which is the lowest it has been in two years.

Each home will be impacted differently by these changes. Standing charges remain the same as current levels, and this is 31p per day for gas and 60p per day for electricity. The main change that will be occurring is in the unit rate, the amount you pay based on usage. That means people in larger properties will tend to pay more due to higher energy use, and those in smaller properties will pay less.

The price cap level for someone paying by pre-payment meter is slightly lower at £1,669 a year, while for someone paying on receipt of bill, the figure is £1,829. Average energy bills will at least be 6% lower than they were last October when the cap was set at an average £1,834, £117 higher than it will be this year.
