In recent months, 'extreme day trips', abbreviated to EDT, have become a popular trend. With this, holidaymakers use local airports to fly abroad and attempt to pack in as much as possible in 24 hours. This allows you to fit a holiday in on any day off from work and save money on accommodation.

One public Facebook group, called Extreme Day Trips Liverpool, was created on August 21, 2024 and now has over 28,000 members with people sharing their EDT's from Speke and asking others for tips on where to go. Over 2,400 people have joined the group in the last week alone. In one post, a holidaymaker claimed she and her best friend had embarked on a one-day trip to Milan with flights at £27 each. As the ECHO has previously reported, Chloe Greenwood, 31, and her best friend, Senna Gligui, 31, spent £136.50 overall each - on food, drinks, public transport and a day at the QC Termemilano spa in Milan. Milan is renowned for its high-end restaurants and shops as well as food and culture. Speaking about her experience in the group, Chloe said: “Me and my bestie have done our first EDT to Milan. Flying into Bergamo from Liverpool, coming back to Manchester from Malpensa. Flights were £27 return each. “So easy to navigate trains and the metro. We are both busy mamas so this was an amazing break for us beats any night out! We explored Bergamo first, had breakfast and then got the train to central Milan. Then we went straight on the metro to QC spa which was a one minute walk! We finished the day with some Aperol spritz and gorgeous food, this won’t be our last trip.” Speaking later about her EDT, Chloe added: 'For a whole day of eating snacks, meals and drinks - you could go out in Liverpool for the same price.
