The consumer group Which? has criticised airlines for failing to get passengers to their destinations and for imposing arbitrary limits on the amount people can claim for accommodation while they wait for their flight
Transport Secretary Mark Harper held another summit on Friday between the UK’s air traffic control body Nats, the Civil Aviation Authority, airlines, airports, trade bodies and the Border Force to track progress on restoring operations after the five-hour outage on Monday, whichMr Harper was told by airlines that “most” customers affected by the failure have now reached their destinations – meaning some are still stranded.
An initial report by Nats will be sent to the regulator, the Civil Aviation Authority and ministers on Monday. It will be made public later in the week. During the summit, Mr Harper said the failure had occurred during one of the busiest weeks of the year for aviation, and noted that airlines had taken “every step possible to increase capacity where possible, including adding extra flights and putting on larger aircraft”, the Department for Transport said.
