Lancashire Day is upon us. A time for us Lancastrians to celebrate our county and all it has to offer

.

So, to celebrate Lancashire Day we’ve compiled a list of the most obscure and the forgotten delicacies that our county was once known for. Whinberry Pie Certainly not forgotten, the Whinberry Pie is a delicacy enjoyed by a lot of people in Lancashire. Famed for its rarity, the Whinberries are only available around the months of June and July when they are picked from the Darwen Moor.

Tosset Cake Tosset Cake was another delight that had been discovered by us in our journey to find the lost delicacies of Lancashire. Similar to the Goosnargh Cake, the tosset cake is associated with the village of Stalmine in Poulton-le-Fylde. Throdkin Throdkin is another one on our list that certainly fits the “forgotten” criteria for our round-up of foods. A food associated with the Fylde Coast, it's a traditional breakfast item that's thought to date back to the 1800s.

We obtained ours by visiting none other than the Tripe Stall in Blackburn Market. Owned by Leanne Oakshott and originally by her mother Pat who started it up, it's been around for over 30 years and sells a multitude of delicious food including sausages, black pudding, pies and tripe.
