The popular Christmas market on Old Market Square is open for business
One of the big pulls at Nottingham's Winter Wonderland is the food and drink. Whether you're having a wander around during the day or making a night of it, there's all the usual festive favourites - and one or two new stalls to whet your appetite.
The good news is the prices are the same as last year with a classic box staying at £7. There's no change either in the price of Raclette Alps, costing £10, which has the addition of bacon and mushrooms. Monsieur Melt, a grilled cheese and ham sandwich with Dijon mustard is back, priced £7. Also on the menu is a Raclette burger for £9 and a halloumi and Portobello mushroom burger for £8.
Top tip: don't hold the marshmallows directly in the centre of the flame. You don't want to burn them. Rotate the skewer for an even toasting. Allow to cool slightly before eating or the gooey sugar could do your mouth some serious damage. "It's good quality, the best ingredients, the best meats, very polite staff and good customer service. The ingredients have doubled in price since last year but we have kept the same prices. It's not packet meat, it comes from a proper butcher's.
Burgers Who doesn't love a burger, whether it's the beach in summer, Goose Fair or the Christmas market? It's not just the standard beef burger at the festive-looking Gourmet Burger chalet. A pot costs £3 - the price it has been for several years. On the very first day, Kim added: "I really like the people and the Christmas feeling. I've already heard Last Christmas about 15 times and I've got seven weeks to go. I'll be hearing it in my sleep - I don't mind, I love Christmas."
Churros In some parts of Spain, churros are eaten for breakfast so perhaps this stall should open at 9am. They're also a popular festive food. No wonder customers are so drawn to the stall as an extractor fan wafts the aroma out into the street. Gracie Scarrott, who is originally from Bolton, has been coming to Nottingham for ten years after an opportunity arose to have a pitch here
It's located right in front of the Council House so there's no missing it. Fill your bun with bratwurst £8, one of Germany's food staples. Alternatively, Krakauer, also £8, has more of a smoky flavour. "It's just something different," said stallholder Samantha Holland. There's even a Christmas special with pigs in blankets, roast potatoes and Brussels sprouts.
Each is priced at £6 and comes with a choice of chocolate, caramel or biscoff sauce. For an extra £1 top with Smarties, mini mallows, crushed Oreos or chocolate curls, or for £1.50 opt for banana, strawberries or Kinder Bueno. Noodle House Chicken balls and noodles don't exactly scream 'festive season' but with a Last Christmas soundtrack you can get away with it. Offering something a bit different to the usual hotdogs and roast meat offerings, Chinese food lovers can chomp on vegetable noodles costing £6 with a choice of curry, sweet and sour, BBQ or katsu curry sauces. Add chicken or falafel balls for an extra £4.
