Friends say the woman had recently lost her husband to sepsis and has two children to support
A fundraiser has been launched to support the woman who suffered serious injuries after falling through Blackpool Central Pier.
It is believed to have been a service hole that would normally be covered up – it has since been boarded over. A spokesperson for Lancashire Police confirmed that as of yesterday the injured woman was still in hospital suffering with "quite serious injuries". He wrote on X: "I can’t believe of all people, she has been through so much & now fallen through a pier at Blackpool & has multiple spinal injuries."
He also added that the woman was "grateful for the support and care shown". The second of Blackpool’s three Victorian piers, Central Pier was constructed in 1868 from cast iron and wood. It suffered a significant fire in 2020 – though this was not close to the site of the fall.
