The UK's largest provider has joined other major lenders as the mortgage price war continues
The UK’s largest lender is launching a rate of 3.99 per cent tomorrow with a £999 fee for those with up to a 40 per cent deposit or equity in their property.belongs to Barclays who revealed yesterday
“Many borrowers with smaller deposits are frustrated their rates are not coming down to qualify as the standout best buys. Some of the lenders like Santander and TSB need to lower their rates a bit more if they want to match the big lenders like Halifax, Nationwide and Barclays.”HSBC, NatWest and Nationwide have all introduced sub-4 per cent rates.
However, Santander, Coventry Building Society, Virgin Money, TSB and Yorkshire Building Society have not yet reduced rates below this level.Fixed mortgage rates tend to fall as swap rates – based on long-term predictions for where the Bank base rate will go in the future – decrease.
