She says she's happy to have created an environment where children can thrive
A Nottingham headteacher is set to retire after more than 40 years in teaching. Schoolchildren and teachers at Springfield Academy, Bulwell, thanked headteacher Jane-Belinda Francis for all her years of service as she prepares to retire at the end of term after leading the school for 16 years.
Springfield Academy, in Lawton Driver, which is part of the Djanogly Learning Trust, was graded ‘good’ in its Ofsted inspection last year. Mrs Francis’s most positive memories include seeing the whole school being able to sing and dance outdoors when Covid-19 restrictions were eased to allow gatherings outside.
"I went to speak to him and asked him how he was doing. He told me he was going to university and was planning to become an accountant. I expressed how pleased I was for him. He replied: ‘But Miss, you told me I could be anything I wanted to be.’ I couldn’t ask for more than that could I?”
