The two sides couldn't be separated at Recreation Park
It was honours even in the first Irvine Valley derby of the season as Darvel and Hurlford United played out a 2-2 draw at Recreation Park.
They were made to pay for those misses as former Ford man Ally Love opened the scoring on 15 minutes with Darvel’s first real attack. That didn’t change the momentum of the contest, though, as United continued to control much of the first half and dragged themselves level midway through the half as Morrison’s strike from 20 yards appeared to take a slight deflection beyond Howie.
After the break, United squandered a glorious chance to stretch the lead as Kris Kerr missed a one-on-one. Morrison and Jack Whittaker both saw efforts saved by Howie before substitute Aaron Black raced through on goal after 76 minutes only for O’Connor to pull off a terrific save and divert the ball onto the woodwork.
