The remnants of Hurricane Nigel are now passing across the country
The vast hurricane that has wreaked havoc on the UK this week has been seen in spectacular pictures. Shot from the International Space Station, they give scale to Hurricane Nigel, a Category 1 hurricane that has brought torrential rain and disruption to Britain.
There are still four flood alerts in place across the UK with the Met Office saying widespread rain will cover much of the country by the end of Friday. The pictures were captured on Tuesday by NASA astronaut Jasmin Moghbeli in orbit 259 miles above the Earth. They show the hurricane on a northeasterly track in the Atlantic Ocean.
She said: "I went to the Cupola to take photos of the Canadarm, which was temporarily parked nearby, when I saw a massive storm. "The Space Station offers a valuable vantage point for observing various weather phenomena, whether through crew Earth observation or the many externally-mounted experiments.
