Gillian Rodgers, 40, says the health scare made her 'aware of my own mortality'
A mum has told how her life was turned upside down when she suffered a stroke while out on a run. Gillian Rodgers, who just 40, says the health scare made her "aware of my own mortality'.
Gillian said: "Everything went really weird. My arms were elongating and shortening, and everything went really slow-mo. It was really odd. It was five days later that Gillian finally visited a doctor. Forgetting her medical training, she had been frenziedly Googling her symptoms in attempt to find out answers. The stroke had severely affected her brain, making it impossible for her to return to general practice.
She said: "I became aware of my own mortality and thought that I had to leave the world a better place. I wanted to make it better for Ewan and his future. I had a neurotypical brain and now the way my brain works, I understand autism in a way that my brain neuro-diverges, a lot of things I experience, he experiences. I'm educated and have got that ability to help people understand."
