The J. Smith-Cameron renaissance is here. Not only has her “Succession” character Gerri Kellman gotten her turn on the business world’s throne in a Jif peanut butter campaign, but Smith-Cameron also just finished her first season appearing as Kathy Vance on “Hacks.” The Emmy-nominated actor’s newest on-screen character is the oft-mentioned but never-seen-until-now sister of Deborah Vance . “I was a fan of the show already way before I ever dreamt of being part of it,” Smith-Cameron tells TODAY.
When asked about her go-to snack prior to performing on stage, Smith-Cameron keeps things simple. “I just try to eat, like, a real dinner,” she says. “But not too close to showtime.” For backstage snacking, the actor says she opts for fresh fruit — an orange or an apple — or, at times, a protein bar if she’s feeling peckish. “But, the main thing is drinking water,” she continues, adding that “just staying hydrated” is paramount for her.
