A judge on Wednesday sentenced a man to life in prison for shooting a Mobile police officer, plus 12 additional years on top of that for a car theft that brought him in contact with the officer.

) - A judge on Wednesday sentenced a man to life in prison for shooting a police officer, plus 12 additional years on top of that for a car theft that brought him in contact with the officer.

Body camera footage played for jurors showed a flash from a .22-caliber pistol. Jurors also heard the sound of a gunshot. “Gunshot. Gunshot,” the officer says in the video clip.“I’d never been in that experience before in my whole career. … It’s about like a unique out-of-body experience,” he testified.

“More than just a police officer, this involved someone who sticks his head out for the community daily and does it the right way,” he said.
