Leeds United are keeping a close eye on the situation involving Southampton striker Cameron Archer as he seeks more playing time. The former Aston Villa forward has been limited to just one start since Russell Martin's departure as Southampton manager, prompting interest from Leeds who have previously tried to sign him.
Southampton manager Ivan Juric admitted earlier this month that Cameron Archer is frustrated at Southampton following his reduced role in the team. The 23-year-old striker has only started one match since Russell Martin was replaced as manager. Archer has also been absent from the substitutes' bench in two of their last seven matches, a stark contrast to his previous consistent appearances in the Premier League this season.
Leeds United have now approached Southampton regarding Archer's availability. Despite their initial request being declined, Leeds intend to closely monitor the situation as the transfer deadline approaches. The former Aston Villa forward has been a player of interest for Leeds over several transfer windows, and they still believe his addition would significantly enhance their squad. Daniel Farke, Leeds' manager, has recently expressed his desire to bolster the team's attacking options. However, any new signings must be capable of outperforming the current players in the squad. Leeds' renewed interest in Archer might have been encouraged by Juric's comments about the player's limited involvement in recent weeks. Following a humiliating 5-0 home defeat to Brentford earlier this month, the Daily Echo inquired about Archer's reaction to being dropped from the starting lineup. 'In this moment, everybody is frustrated,' Juric responded. 'The players that have started, me, my wife. We are frustrated. 'In this moment, I don't think that players can think about themselves. They have to think about the club.' Since then, the Southampton manager has acknowledged the need for Archer to work hard for his chances to play. 'I saw one (version of) Cameron in the last 10 days that was very good, very nice,' Juric stated. 'He did well when he came on against Swansea (in their FA Cup third-round tie). 'He has to work, that's it, and he will have his chances.
