Liam Gordon hopes the Steelmen can scare off suitors in the talented teenager
Liam Gordon watched a young Ali McCann emerge at St Johnstone as an integral part of their legendary cup-winning side. He was probably the most talented kid he’d ever played alongside – until he joined Motherwell that is.
“But Ali wasn’t playing at 17. He didn’t break through until he was 19 or 20. Franczak is also a really good player and in Poland’s Under-18 squad. I thought he was one of the best I’d seen at that club in a long time. “But then I saw him in my first few training sessions. And the biggest compliment I can pay Lennon is that now I completely forget his age every time I’m on the pitch with him. He plays like a 27-year-old who’s had 300 games. He has quality and technical ability that not many other players in this league have, let alone boys his age.”
And the Well stopper insists his pal deserves the shirt. The defender said: “Me and Zander played a lot together. He’s a great guy and a close friend. I’m delighted to see what he’s gone on to do with Hearts and Scotland. Zander is up there with the best I’ve played with. At St Johnstone he didn’t get the exposure he deserved.
Gordon is loving life at Motherwell after his summer move – and says the team spirit at Fir Park is even better than at Saints. And the 28-year-old has contributed to the banter with his new blond barnet!
