Former President Donald Trump said Secret Service members tackled him so hard they knocked him out of his shoes after he was shot in the right ear.
He spoke candidly about the shooting Wednesday during a rally in North Carolina , telling the crowd about the assassination attempt , which occurred at a separate rally in Pennsylvania on July 13.
A 50-year-old man was killed in the shooting and two other people were seriously hurt. The shooter, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crook, was killed by authorities at the scene. "I said, "You're not putting me I'm not getting on a stretcher.' I said, 'That's not going to look very good if I get carried out on a stretcher,'" Trump said.
Trump's microphone picks up the urgent chatter, with agents telling the former president the shooter is down.
