Wilko’s collapse into administration has left shoppers in Lincoln feeling “desperately upset”, as the threat of store closures and job losses looms over the homeware and household goods retailer.
The value chain said it had “left no stone unturned” when it came to trying to prevent the brand falling into administration, and that the focus now is to try and “preserve as many jobs as possible for as long as possible.” They told The Lincolnite: “We are absolutely gutted. The High Street has never not had Wilko and we’ve never known any differently, it’s a real surprise because it always seems so busy.
“Shoppers want these kind of one-stop shops where you can get any and everything from, but they also want some variety in the items they are buying. Another factor that frustrated customers is the shift towards online shopping rather than in-store, due to the number of businesses that have closed physical stores in recent times.
