LIVE: There are long delays on the A1M in Leeds right now
Two lanes on the A1M have been closed after an accident involving two cars on the road resulted in barrier damage.
The accident has caused long delays, which are only increasing, having been pegged at 45 minutes a few minutes ago, before being increased to 60 minutes. Recovery work is underway while emergency services are on scene. as a result, extending to as long as seven and a half miles. The accident happened on the A1 Southbound, just before J43 M1.Inirix reports: "Long delays, two lanes closed and queueing traffic for seven miles due to recovery work and accident on A1 Southbound before J43 M1. Congestion to After J45 . Travel time is around 45 minutes.Lanes three and four are closed."
National Highways have confirmed the accident and closure. A spokesperson for National Highways said: "New Incident. A1M southbound between J44 A64 Leeds and J43 M1. Two lanes closed due to a two car collision and barrier damage. Currently causing a delay of 60 mins and congestion for 7.5 miles."Maynard ManyowaDelays are still expected on the A1 near Leeds after an accident between two cars caused damage to the barriers.
However, the 7.5 miles of queueing traffic are set to persist for little longer and traffic is still marked as slow moving.
