The authority's cabinet was told how the community in L8 felt decisions were being made 'about us not with us'

Liverpool Council ’s cabinet will be asked to apologise over how it has handled plans for a new school that could lead to a much-loved African Caribbean centre being displaced. Last month, board members at the Merseyside African Caribbean Centre on Upper Parliament Street reacted angrily after it was revealed the city council had selected the area around the site as part of parcels of land it had earmarked for the construction of a new school.

He said it appeared the communities had been “treated as an afterthought” which spoke of the cabinet’s “poor record” on consultation. The board of the African Caribbean centre has written to the local authority seeking assurances the centre will be allowed to stay “on its full existing site as an independent centre.” It has also approached Liverpool Women’s Hospital for correspondence over land used as the car park on the site.
