Bernie McConnell received the Eastside Award for Outstanding Contribution for her tireless work uplifting others in East Belfast. For 35 years, she has created vital resources and support through the Short Strand Community Centre and fostered collaboration in organizations like EastSide Partnership and East Belfast Sure Start.
A local woman who has dedicated her life to uplifting others has been recognised at this year’s Eastside Awards in association with Belfast City Airport. Jonathan McAlpin of East Belfast Enterprise presented Bernie McConnell with the Eastside Award for Outstanding Contribution acknowledging how one person can make an immeasurable difference.
Chair of the Eastside Awards committee and chief executive of East Belfast Enterprise, Jonathan McAlpin, said: “To present the award for Outstanding Contribution to someone who has shared platforms with presidents is a real honour. Bernie is the epitome of hope, a shining light who has created a lasting legacy for future generations in East Belfast.
