Lycoming succeeds in getting removed from organization’s list of sanctuary counties

Eleven other Pennsylvania counties including Dauphin are so designated.

But the center included it because it believed it did not fully comply with an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer, Matthew A. McDermott, county director of administration, explained.

They announced Monday that the effort had been successful. The policy on ICE detainers has been changed to state the county will communicate and coordinate with the agency before releasing anyone. The ICE office for administrative and processing purposes is now in Williamsport having been relocated from the Allenwood Federal Correctional Complex in Union County.
