Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola spoke about the fitness of Rodri and Pep Guardiola ahead of the West Ham game
Rodri has returned to group training this week after injuring his hamstring in the final of the European Championship with Spain last month. The 28-year-old midfielder is not being rushed back, and while he will travel with the team down to the London Stadium the current feeling from Guardiola is that he may not feature.
Foden will definitely miss the game and could be ruled out of England duty as his fitness struggles continues. The newly-crowned PFA Player of the Year was described as ill when he missed the Ipswich game last weekend, and Guardiola said on Friday that the star experienced discomfort after the game at Stamford Bridge a week earlier.
The hope is that he will be back playing for City after the international break when the fixtures start coming thick and fast; Brentford, Watford and Arsenal are all the Etihad inside eight days in September, with the latter in particular a match City would want to have Foden fit and firing for. "Hopefully after the international break he will be ready," said Guardiola. "He played 45 minutes against Chelsea and after he didn't feel good.
"We made tests, he feels better but he doesn't feel perfect so we prefer to give him time to come back after the international break and be ready for the next games."
