David Liptrot, 55, had been enjoying a night out at his local in Lancashire as his girlfriend lay dead on her bathroom floor.
A man confessed to killing his girlfriend - while singing Neil Diamond's Sweet Caroline and snorting cocaine in a pub.
Handing the brute a 20-year prison sentence at Manchester Crown Court today , Her Honour Judge Suzanne Goddard said: "Your behaviour, knowing as you must have done that Caroline Gore was dead in your hands, was callous and shows the hollowness of your protestations in evidence that you truly loved her."

During the trial last month, Liptrot claimed Ms Gore had been violent against him - but at his sentencing today it was revealed he had a huge list of previous convictions, which included domestic violence - against both other partners and Ms Gore. The court heard Liptrot had made 48 previous appearances in court for 85 offences, dating back to 1979.
