Fascinating photos of the city's annual celebrations that went on to become Manchester Pride
the Village Charity has run the festival which became known as Manchester Mardi Gras, 'The Carnival of Fun'. The event grew year-on-year until 1999 when the council took control, introducing tickets and fences.However, the following year the community took back control of the celebration which was renamed Gayfest in 2000 and 2001.
Following the city hosting EuroPride in 2003, the annual celebration has since been known as Manchester Pride.which takes place this August Bank Holiday, we've put together a gallery of scenes from the Mardi Gras and Gayfest celebrations.
