He was reversing his car down Flinders St, near Highlander Lane, about 9.30am on May 26 when he hit a 44-year-old Richmond woman.Police allege Murray reversed up to 30m down the busy road before striking the pedestrian, who was crossing the street after getting off a tram.
Police allege the driver reversed up to 30m before striking the pedestrian, who was crossing the street after getting off a tram. The court was told she suffered two impacts. A man who had also just got off a tram said after she was struck, he saw the woman’s body lifted on to the top of the car and then hit the road.Another witness, who was waiting for an Uber, said the car was reversing down the road at an angle when it hit the woman.
Magistrate Malcolm Thomas committed Murray to stand trial in the County Court, finding there was enough evidence for a jury to potentially convict him for dangerous driving causing death.“The court acknowledges the pain and suffering they are going through,” Thomas said.Murray, who remains on bail, will next face court for a directions hearing on April 27.
