According to long range forecasts, there could be plenty of snow ahead due to an El Niño weather pattern
The Met Office has issued its verdict on when we could see the first snow of the season hit the UK this winter.
El Niño is a term for when the sea surface temperature warms every few years and its effects are usually felt in December. in Previous years El Niño has resulted in colder winters in the UK.El Niño is expected to peak around December this year with forecasters looking at long-range data predicting the UK, including Lancashire, is likely to have plenty of snowfall this winter.
He added: "It's important to note that this is the average across many El Niño cases and isn’t strong enough to determine the outcome for certain. Instead, El Niño just shifts the probability in favour of these outcomes." The Met Office said that for snow to fall, there must be cold air and plenty of moisture, reports Mirror. That cold air requires winds from the north or east. If those conditions are met, that wind needs to encounter a rain-bearing weather front, or for the cold air to pick up enough moisture as it comes in across the North Sea to form showers.
