The council did approve a resolution that asks MPD to tell the council if any of their policies related to these warrants changes in the future.

) -An ordinance that would mostly ban MPD’s use of no knock and pre dawn warrants is officially off the table. The ordinance stemmed from an incident in November where a 16-year-old was killed while mobile police were searching for his relative during a pre-dawn search warrant. Mayor Sandy Stimpson issued an immediate ban on those warrants that same day. Soon after, Mobile Police Chief Paul Prine changed the policy so those warrants would have to be signed off by him.

Councilman Cory Penn wanted to make that ban part of an ordinance but there were concerns over violating state law by directing MPD to do something. Councilman Penn tried to alleviate those concerns by amending the ordinance.
