Joan Kathleen Turnell, 77, kept her deceased daughter Tracey's body in their flat for over a year before taking it for a walk in a wheelchair outside a shopping centre. Neighbours reported a foul smell coming from the flat for months, but authorities did not act. Ms Turnell was diagnosed with prolonged grief disorder and a brain tumour.

The neighbours of a woman who kept the body of her daughter in a flat for more than a year before wheeling it around a shopping centre have spoken of their horror at seeing her take out the corpse.

Neighbour Kiri, 60, told the Daily Star: 'I saw them taking the body out of the flat. It was me who kept telling the caretaker told me the body was in there. Another neighbour said the daughter suddenly disappeared and they assumed she had gone into a care facility. The mother 'seemed fine' and was 'friendly', they added.

When Ms Turnell was sectioned under the Mental Health Act she asked: 'Why can't they just leave us alone? We have been fine and I have been looking after her.'Ms Turnell denied causing her daughter's death in a heartbreaking statement to the coroner saying: 'I do not know what caused my daughter's death.

'I found it inhumane to summon Mrs Turnell here today to give live evidence,' he said. 'I don't think the nature and quality of her evidence would have assisted me.' 'I can't remember an exact date of Tracey's death but I believe it to be around September of 2022,' her mother said in her statement.
