Thousands of people have signed an online petition calling for changes to the STate Pension pay and retirement age.
An online petition calling for State Pension payments to be increased to match the National Minimum Wage has been rejected by the Department for Work and Pensions . More than 13,690 people from across the UK have signed the proposal, which also calls for the State Pension age to be lowered back to 60 for men and women.
DWP added that it is “committed to ensuring economic security for people at every stage of their life, including when they reach retirement”. The 2023/24 National Minimum Wage rate for those aged 23 and over is £10.42 per hour, which works out at £416.80 for a 40-hour working week. This would be an annual salary of £21,673.

Changes to State Pension age were made over a series of Acts by successive governments from 1995 onwards, following public consultations and extensive debates in both Houses of Parliament.
