FOX10 News has learned there will be no vote today on either of the resolutions -- one to fire Police Chief Paul Prine and the other to initiate an investigation into allegations he has made.
FOX10 News has learned there will be no vote today on either of the resolutions regarding MPD Chief Paul Prine. The move comes as City Attorney Ricardo Woods revealed that a settlement offer is on the table to the suspended chief. It is similar to one discussed publicly earlier this month. Woods said the chief would remain on the payroll, in a consulting role, until the end of the mayor’s term. If Stimpson were to be re-elected next year, that advisory role would continue.
Prine rejected an earlier offer because, he explained, it came along with “intimidation.” He told FOX10 News on Tuesday that he is open to a settlement “with the right conditions” but has not received or reviewed the offer. Stimpson put Prine on administrative leave two weeks ago after what the mayor described as a breakdown in the relationship between the chief and Public Safety Director Rob Lasky and Chief of Staff James Barber.“We tried everything we could do to keep this issue from coming before the council,” Stimpson said. “Those efforts did not succeed. The longer we delay – talking about two weeks to make a decision – that’s unacceptable.
“If it’s an ethics violation, go ahead and turn it over to the Ethic Commission,” Small said. “You head at least four council members asking that. Please save the taxpayers money. Save the council, you know, some time before we can pretty much move on.”“In all the years I’ve been on the council, I have never seen us in this sort of predicament. We have had any number of appointed employees, contract employees, leave. But I have never been called on to fire one.
