Two Barclays in Nottinghamshire are set to close
after the bank announced which branches would be shut. A total of 12 banks will take place across England in in August in a further blow for struggling high streets.
Barclays' in Newark and Worksop will close in the next few months. The branch in Market Place, Newark will shut on August 17, with the Bridge Street, Worksop, branch closing one week later. A Barclays spokesperson said: "As visits to branches continue to fall, we need to adapt to provide the best service for all our customers. Where there is no longer enough demand to support a branch, we maintain an in-person presence though our Barclays Local network, live in over 200 locations, based in libraries, town halls, mobile vans and our new banking pods.
Customers who need of face-to-face support have a few options if their local branch is shutting. The bank runs pop-up sites and is opening new "banking pods" which are semi-permanent sites that can be moved to different towns and locations based on demand. Barclays currently has 200 pop-up sites and has announced plans to increase this number by another 70, while it also has ten of its "banking pods". The bank also runs an educational and support van service for people who need financial advice on topics such as saving for a home or setting up a business.
