Dave Marshall, a chef from Nottinghamshire, participated in the Channel 4 series 'Go Back To Where You Came From', following the perilous journeys asylum seekers make to reach the UK. The show takes him through Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, witnessing firsthand the hardships and dangers they face. Marshall, who previously held strong views on immigration, says the experience profoundly challenged his perspectives.

A Nottinghamshire chef, who has never travelled further than Spain before, has followed the dangerous journey asylum seekers make to get to the UK for a new TV show. Dave Marshall is used to high-pressure situations in the heat of the kitchen but it pales into insignificance compared to his latest life-changing mission.

The group witness nearby missile strikes and the mass overcrowding of camps. They trek through an African desert, climb over border crossings through mountain ranges and experience first-hand some of the terror of small boat crossings. Having volunteered at food banks during lockdown, he said: "There's a lot of hardships here already that aren't being looked after and until that's sorted maybe it's better to help people here first than from other places."

Admitting his views on mass immigration were based partly on ignorance and "burying his head in the sand", Dave said the experience "massively" challenged his opinion. "It was a real eye-opener. For me having certain views on stuff and doing this, a lot of things changed. Once the show comes out you'll see a change in me. This show is very powerful. I think it will bring people together massively.
